Care & Maintenance

Fabrics

All MISMO fabrics are sourced from Europe, with the renowned Italian textile house Limonta serving as our primary supplier. Since our launch in 2006, we have worked with a wide range of fabrics and constructions, continuously exploring different weaves, yarns and finishes to create products that are both distinctive and enduring. Today, our collections span everything from durable cotton-nylon canvases, developed to combine natural tactility with added resilience, to recycled ECONYL® nylons and custom-developed jacquard weaves created exclusively for MISMO.

All MISMO fabrics are treated with a fluorocarbon-free water-repellent finish (WRT), helping protect against light rain, surface moisture and everyday exposure. While our nylon and polyester-based fabrics are naturally more resistant to moisture than canvas and jacquard constructions, no woven fabric should be considered fully waterproof.

Should your MISMO product pick up dirt or stains, gently spot-clean the affected area using a soft cloth or sponge, lukewarm water and a small amount of mild soap. Avoid aggressive scrubbing and allow the fabric to dry naturally away from direct heat sources.

We do not recommend the use of chemical cleaning agents, solvents or stain removers, as their effect may vary depending on the fabric and finish. Should you wish to experiment with a cleaning product, always test it first on a small, inconspicuous area such as the base of the bag before applying it more broadly.

Bridle Leather

We use bridle leather for handles and trimmings on most of our fabric bags, as well as accessories such as belts and key hangers. Custom-developed in Turkey, our semi vegetable-tanned bridle leather offers an ideal balance of durability, character and the ability to age gracefully over time.

The best way to clean bridle leather is to gently wipe it with a soft, damp cloth and allow it to dry naturally. Occasional application of a neutral leather balm or wax polish will help nourish and protect the surface, ensuring your product continues to age beautifully for years to come.

To care for your bridle leather, avoid extreme temperatures, rough handling and prolonged contact with water and excessive moisture. As with most naturally tanned leathers, prolonged exposure to heat, humidity and friction may occasionally result in slight colour transfer onto light-coloured garments. While uncommon, we recommend exercising extra care when carrying leather straps or handles directly against white or delicate fabrics in warm and humid conditions.

Should the leather become wet, simply allow it to dry naturally away from direct heat sources. Once dry, inspect for any watermarks and apply a small amount of leather balm or polish if needed.

Over time, regular use and friction may cause slight de-pigmentation as the upper layers of wax and finish gradually wear away. This is a natural characteristic of the material and part of the ageing process. As the leather matures, it will develop a richer tone and a unique patina, adding further depth and individuality to your MISMO product.

Full Grain Leather

MISMO uses leather that has undergone as few chemical processes as possible. Due to the natural dyeing process, the leather may vary in nuance and texture, which is integral to the living character of the product.

Over time, sunlight, oils and other factors will render the MISMO bag with an individual patina, which only adds to its beauty. With proper care and maintenance, a MISMO bag will provide you with years of enduring companionship. The best way to care for the full-grain leather and your MISMO product is simply to use it, but always to do so with care. Full-grain leather is a sturdy and hard-wearing natural material that can last for many years but it does have its limits. Avoid extreme temperatures, rough handling and direct contact with wet and moist surfaces.

We recommend treating full-grain leather with a leather conditioner when necessary. A leather conditioner provides moisture to rejuvenate the leather, keeping it supple and ensuring that it does not dry out, fade or crack. Treatment with leather conditioner will also give your MISMO bag a deeper, richer lustre and sheen while keeping it free of impurities.
